How are fire pumps powered?
Some fire pumps are electrically driven while others are diesel fuel driven
How often should a fire pump be tested?
Electrical-driven fire pumps should be tested once a week for 10 minutes. Diesel-driven fire pumps should run for 30 minutes once per week to keep the diesel engine warm and ready if needed.
What is tested during a fire pump inspection?
The lines, voltage, amps and RPMs are checked on an electrical-driven fire pump. The fuel level and battery, as well as a full engine service, should be performed for a diesel-driven fire pump. Inspectors will also perform a flow test that checks the rate of flow.
